Meditation has become something I cannot do without. I see and hear more clearly, feel more relaxed and calm, and I actually find my experiences slowing down. I'm more appreciative of each day as I observe how things constantly change and dissolve. I've realized that everything is in a continual process of coming and going. I don't hold happiness or anger for a long time. It just comes and goes.
I'm beginning to learn how to meditate during other daily activities. This evening I tried to meditate while a Chicago Bulls vs. Detroit Pistons basketball game was on TV. I couldn't avoid hearing the game and the prisoners' cheering. It was extremely loud. Even worse, I like basketball.
I didn't last a full quarter of the game. I had my eyes closed, trying not to listen. But I couldn't do it. I kept trying and trying-just sitting there on my floor. But when by accident I let out a cheer-having heard that Michael Jordan hit a three-pointer-I got up and said, "OK, OK. Maybe next time." I just didn't have the concentration. At least not yet.
I'm not a great meditator, but I realize how important my practice is. Still, I also like watching sports, playing basketball, and looking at cartoons. I adore junk foods and sometimes I love dirty jokes. I'm in love with life.
