URGENT: Jarvis on Hunger Strike to Protest Officer Misconduct During Surprise Cell Search
Urgent Action Requested: On November 14, 2019, Jarvis returned to his cell from a routine legal visit to discover that it had been completely ravaged by correctional officers. Three box boxes of legal papers were taken and his personal belongings (food, toiletries, CD’s, and books, including “Finding Freedom”) were torn apart and strewn all over, with some items tossed in the toilet. No explanation was given from authorities.
This incident occurred shortly after a recent article surfaced in San Quentin News titled “CA Court Upholds Death Sentence in Prison Officer Murder” by Alfred King, which included information from Jarvis’ CA state appeal, which is highly unusual and not routinely—if ever—done. It is our contention that the publication of this article places Jarvis’ safety and security in jeopardy and is possibly a violation of privacy standards in this context.
Please take action now.
Friends and supporters are asked to contact the California Department of Corrections & Rehabilitation and San Quentin State Prison and request authorities to:
1) investigate the cell search incident and publication of the article
2) release the names of the officers and personnel involved so Jarvis can file the appropriate official grievances
3) return all of Jarvis' belongings to him with a full inventory list and explanation as to what was confiscated and why and which officials had access to these possessions
4) commit to protecting all inmates from officer misconduct and harassment
Letters and emails should be addressed to:

Lt. Sam Robinson has responded to initial inquiries so far by stating "we are aware of the allegations and are looking into it. The inquiry has just begun and [as of 11/17/19], there is no definitive conclusion date."
Jarvis is on an indefinite hunger strike to highlight the urgency of the situation. As Jarvis’ case proceeds to the federal level, he is currently without legal representation, leaving him vulnerable to violations of his rights. Public pressure and community support will help to safeguard his rights and person at this critical time.
Thank you for your advocacy.
