Jarvis' Campaign Signs On Coalition Letter to Congress: Abolish the Federal Death Penalty
ACTION ALERT: While the pandemic, fires, and floods rage on in the middle of a national racial reckoning, so does the travesty of U.S. federal executions. Two more executions are set for this week at the federal penetentiary in Terre Haute, Ind. after five were already carried out this summer—the first in 16 years.
The Campaign to Exonerate Jarvis Jay Masters has signed on with hundreds of other groups and organizations calling on Congress to end the federal death penalty. Meanwhile, the Death Penalty Information Center last week issued a major report, “Enduring Injustice: the Persistence of Racial Discrimination in the U.S. Death Penalty” that places capital punishment in historical context as a “descendant of slavery, lynching, and segregation,” arguing that the death penalty must be part of any current debate on criminal legal system reform.
