Jarvis Remembers the late Michael Satris

We regret to share sad news on the sudden passing of Michael Satris, an attorney who served on Jarvis’ legal team during Jarvis’ original trial in the late 1980s. As co-founder of the pioneering Prison Law Office, Michael is fondly remembered for his decades of critical work for prisoners’ rights. He was memorialized in this San Francisco Chronicle article by veteran journalist Bob Egelko here.

Michael was also recently featured in the first season of “Dear Governor,” the podcast about Jarvis’ case, and his letter can be heard here or here at the sixth episode’s 21:30 mark.

Says Jarvis, “Most of us here on San Quentin's death row had known Michael. He kept it real. And throughout the years I had known him, both as a friend and my capital case trial attorney, I knew he fought and gave his all in the courtroom. The news of Michael passing is a painful reminder that life is only the time we have to make the most of it. I could always see this in Michael. May we all come to know a Michael in our lifetimes.”
